About the role: This is a fantastic, exceptionally rare Development Team Leadership opportunity to join a new, rapidly growing, well-funded spin-off from a large, well-recognised brand. This new role will provide the excitement of a start up but with the security of joining a global leader in Cloud Computing that has an
established and impressive client base.
Initially you will be responsible for creating this mobile development team whilst merging existing, small, local and remote mobile development teams. You will then be tasked with managing the mobile development teams that build, deploy and maintain mobile application solutions for not only enterprise environments but for consumers too.
Predominantly they are looking for a strong Team Leader with a solid technical background and a proven understanding of the mobile space. Once they have this Mobile Development Team Leader role filled, there will be no stopping them in hiring the Android and iOS (Objective C) Mobile Developers for the team!
You'll be responsible for:
- 40% of the role will be technical:
- Making technical decisions & influencing the direction of development
- Endorsing good software development practises and methodologies
- Investigating and evangelising new mobile technology tools & solutions
- Sharing your knowledge and experiences with the rest of the team
- 60% of the role will comprise of team leadership:
- Leading a current team of 3 Mobile Developers based in Sydney
- Recruitment of another 5 Android and iOS Developers in Sydney
- Liaising with the Technical Team Lead based in Asia
- Helping the Technical Team Lead train the existing development team in Asia
- Setting up conference calls/meetings with remote office
- Overseas trips for face to face meetings with the development team (2-4 times within the first year)
- Resource allocation, task delegation and scheduling etc
- Establishing work processes between Sydney and Asia to work as one Mobile Development team
- Successful delivery of mobile applications for client projects
To be successful in this role: - Strong technical background and IT development background
- People management and team leadership experience with experience managing projects, though this is not for a PM role
- Previous experience working within the mobile space is essential
- Genuinely passionate about anything mobile related with a good understanding of the latest trends and emerging mobile technologies
- Experience developing mobile applications using Android or Objective C / iOS for the Apple iProducts such as the iPhone and iPad will be considered advantageous
- Since one of the development teams is located overseas, you must be able to take trips to Asia 2-4 times within the first year
- Your communication skills MUST be unquestionable
- You will be a natural leader - able to hold meetings as well as hire, manage, train and motivate a team of direct reports; all with a positive outlook and with a high level of business acumen
This role is well suited to a Technical Team Leader with a solid background understanding within the mobile space (particularly iOS and Android). You want to continue your career within this space but are on the look out for the next step in your career, within a more senior Development Manager role with more formal leadership responsibilities. This will offer you not only the chance to demonstrate your technical leadership skills but also your people management and motivational abilities.
